Our Team
We are an employee-owned company with a deep passion for space hardware and problem-solving. Our talented team combines technical skill, industry experience, and a collaborative culture to ensure your mission-critical testing succeeds.

Josh Gurian
President, Co-Owner
Joshua Gurian is a physicist with over twenty years of experience in high vacuum technology and the design of thermal vacuum test systems. After earning his PhD in Physics from the University of Virginia, Josh applied his expertise to everything from advanced optical coatings to full-scale space simulation systems. He founded Rydberg Vacuum Sciences (RVS) in 2018 with the mission of making high-quality space testing more accessible. Before launching RVS, Josh was the Senior Scientist at Dynavac, where he led the Applications Lab and solved some of the industry’s trickiest technical puzzles.
(Yes, he really did name the company after a physics constant. Yes, he thinks that’s hilarious.)

Kelsey Bakas
Vice President, Co-Owner
Kelsey Bakas leads RVS’s business operations and serves as the primary point of contact for customer relationships. From coordinating project timelines to answering late-night launch prep questions, Kelsey keeps the wheels turning and the clients smiling. Her commitment to clear communication and excellent service is one of RVS’s biggest strengths.
All those Chuck Norris facts? Actually about Kelsey. She can rub two fires together and make a stick. She can unscramble an egg. When the bogeyman goes to sleep, he checks his closet – for Kelsey Bakas.

Mike McGuire
Senior Assembly & Installation Lead, Co-Owner
Mike McGuire leads RVS’s installation and service programs, bringing deep hands-on knowledge and dedication to system reliability. An expert at building systems from the ground up as well as troubleshooting in the field, Mike ensures every RVS system meets the highest standards
He also happens to be a legend of the 2010s Seattle bike polo scene. We’re not saying Mike invented bike polo, but he definitely made it cool. Oh, and NASA’s Artemis mission? Named after his cat. Probably.

Miguel Montes
Senior Software Engineer, Co-Owner
Miguel Montes designs and maintains RVS’s control systems and software architecture. His work ensures each RVS system runs efficiently, accurately, and intuitively. With a strong background in systems engineering and an eye for elegant code, Miguel plays a critical role in every test system we ship.
Rumor has it that at age eleven, he crashed 1,507 computer systems and caused a seven-point drop in the NYSE. He was briefly married to Angelina Jolie in the late ’90s. You didn’t hear that from us.

Elena Montes
Assembler, Co-Owner
With craftsmanship that would make Michelangelo envious, Elena brings precision and artistry to every RVS build. She handles tight-tolerance assemblies, intricate wiring, and the finishing touches that make our systems stand out.
When she’s not making spaceflight hardware, she’s perfecting a new recipe or planning her next outdoor adventure.

Niels Thogersen III
Engineering Manager, Co-Owner

Kevin Code
Assembler
A Seattle native, Kevin Code supports the production and assembly of RVS systems. Known for his dependability and craftsmanship, Kevin is a key contributor to the team’s build quality and workflow.
(Also, he’s the only one who remembers where we put the tools.)
